Overview
The SFL OHS conference is held annually for unionized workers in Saskatchewan to learn about the latest issues surrounding occupational health and safety.
Enrollment for the school is limited and courses are filled on a first registered, first preference basis. Your registration fee must accompany your registration form in order to qualify. Register early as seats are limited in each course! We will do our best to register you in your preferred course.
The conference is open to all SFL affiliates and non-affiliates, and non-unionized workers are welcome to attend as well.
Course Options
Courses are scheduled over the length of the conference. If spots are not available in your first course preference, you will be registered in your second or third course preference as selected on your registration form. Full course descriptions in the attached brochure.
Prevention of Violence in the Workplace
This course is intended to assist joint OH&S committees to identify the potential hazards in the workplace, conduct a risk assessment and recommend corrective action as they pertain to violence. Participants will learn the process to put a violence policy in place at their workplace.
Occupational Health and Safety for Retail Workers
This course will provide the tools to identify hazards, assess risks and become active in your workplaces when it comes to safety, specific to retail work, including your physical and mental health and safety.
Domestic Violence in the Workplace
This course is designed to train union representatives in our workplaces to be able to respond to members who may be experiencing domestic violence, learning warning signs, risk factors, and opportunities for collective bargaining.
Effective Occupational Health and Safety Committees
We have been hearing about the challenges and cutbacks affecting OH&S committees and recognize that safety starts at this level. This course is designed for those workers who have experience working on OH&S committees and are looking to maximize the powers of their committees.
Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
This course will show you how to use this legislation as a tool to advance OH&S in your workplace. You will be provided with information relevant to the updates and changes to the OH&S Regulations.
Building Psychologically Healthy Workplaces
Mental health in the workplace is an issue impacting all workplaces and can no longer be ignored. Participants will gain an understanding of the new CSA standard, review the current workplace psychological landscape and learn strategies for implementing an effective psychological healthy and safe workplace program.
History of Occupational Health & Safety
Workers have three legislated rights, started in Saskatchewan and spread around the globe: the right to know, the right to participate, and the right to refuse unnecessary unsafe work. Participants will leave this course with a deep understanding of the three worker rights, and the proud history of OHS in Saskatchewan.
