SFL celebrates International Women’s Day values all year-round
The Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL) celebrates March 8th – International Women’s Day (IWD) – and lives IWD values all year-round through advocacy, campaigns, and events.
International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by women who have played extraordinary roles in their communities and within the labour movement.
“Saskatchewan’s labour movement has long fought for improving the lives of all women, working in solidarity with feminist movements and doing everything we can to promote equality,” said SFL President Lori Johb, “we continue to advocate for paid leave from work for survivors of domestic violence, we helped plan another inspiring Women’s March earlier this year, and we recently held an equity conference that shone a light on barriers facing women,” she added.
From June 9th to the 13th, the SFL will once again be hosting its annual Prairie School for Union Women (PSUW). The school offers trade union women an intensive four days of learning and sharing in a supportive environment. The goals of the school are to develop women’s personal and leadership skills and to build solidarity among women workers.
“I can think of no better example than the Prairie School for Union Women of how the SFL lives the values of International Women’s Day. Throughout the year, women get together and organize this amazing school for the sole purpose of helping and empowering other trade union women,” said Johb, “I hope women of all experience levels from all different unions decide to register for Prairie School this year,” she added.
Taking place in Waskesiu Lake, this year PSUW offers eight exciting courses to choose from. To learn more, and to download the registration form, visit: www.sfl.sk.ca/events.
