MARILYNNE MACFARLANE ACCLAIMED AS SASKATCHEWAN FEDERATION OF LABOUR PRESIDENT
Released October 23, 2026
REGINA – UFCW 1400 member Marilynne MacFarlane has been acclaimed at the tenth President of the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL). She was sworn in at the conclusion of the Federation’s convention in Regina.
“Saskatchewan workers are facing new challenges,” said MacFarlane. “Artificial intelligence, U.S. tariff wars, and politicians trying to take away our right to strike causes anxiety for everyone in our province.”
MacFarlane says the Federation will be focused on standing up for Saskatchewan workers on these issues during her two-year term. She will be joined by newly elected Secretary-Treasurer Darcy Pederson of ATU.
“Governments frequently need to be reminded that they work for us, not the other way around,” observed MacFarlane. “We’ll intend to start handing out these reminders.”
MacFarlane joined UFCW 1400 while working for Affinity Credit Union. She has served in numerous elected positions including shop steward, unit chair, and secretary-treasurer. She has also served a term as Secretary-Treasurer of the SFL.
The Saskatchewan Federation of Labour represents over 100,000 members, from 26 national and international unions. Their affiliate membership belongs to over 500 locals across the province and represents dozens of communities.
