SASKATCHEWAN FEDERATION OF LABOUR CALLS ON SASKATCHEWAN M.P. TO STAND UP FOR WORKERS’ RIGHT TO STRIKE
Released June 11, 2026
REGINA – Saskatchewan Federation of Labour Secretary-Treasurer Marilynne MacFarlane sent an open letter to Federal Cabinet Secretary Buckley Belanger, M.P. asking Saskatchewan’s government-side Member of Parliament to advocate for maintaining the right to strike for workers, which is currently under threat from the federal government.
“The right of Saskatchewan workers to strike is protected and unassailable. We expect every elected official in our province to protect that right.
“There is no economic benefit from stripping the right to collectively withdraw their services when they stand up from themselves. In fact, we risk the wages, safety, and quality of working life for all workers when the right to strike is taken away.
“We expect Secretary Belanger and every Saskatchewan elected official, regardless of party, to stand of for the rights of workers, including the right to strike.”
